Capsicum

Despite being a single species, Capsicum comes in a wide range of hues, including red, yellow, green, purple, and even black! In addition to being used as a spice and vegetable, Capsicum has also found usage in medicine due to its outstanding health advantages.

Plant Features:

  • Life-cycle: Annual
  • Height: up to 1 metre
  • Width/Spacing: 20 to 30 cm
  • Flower colour: white
  • Foliage: densely branched

Growing Capsicum needs:

  • Sunlight: partial sun/shade – around 3-4 hours of morning/evening sunlight with some afternoon shade.
  • Water: moderately- when the top inch of the soil feels dry.

Care:

Capsicum may be grown by immediately sowing the seeds in the soil or by growing the seeds inside before transferring the seedlings (approximately 10-15 cm tall plants) outside. Before transplanting the Capsicum seedlings, fertilize the soil with compost, manure, compost tea, or Panchagavya. For further information, see “How to Fertilize Vegetable Plants.” Plant the seedlings around 30 cm apart. As the plant begins to develop fruit, it will require support from short-stakes for balance. Capsicum can shed their blooms to preserve energy in extremely hot or cold climates, making them unproductive. As a result, planting them at the appropriate time is critical for a healthy yield. Capsicum plants may be grown in pots as well.

Fertilizer:

Improve soil fertility while the plant is actively developing by scraping some compost into two soil without disturbing the plant’s roots. Then, every month, feed the plant a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer. For Growing, diluted at a rate of 1 teaspoon/litre of water.
