Miltonia Yellow (4 stalks)

Miltonia is a genus of orchids that comprises twelve epiphyte species and eight natural hybrids. It is sometimes known as Milt. in the horticulture trade. Except for one species, the Miltonia are only found in Brazil. However, its range extends from Brazil into northeast Argentina and east Paraguay.

Miltonia was named after John Lindley, who described its type species, Miltonia spectabilis, in 1837. Previously, No more species were ascribed to Miltonia; however, beginning in 1978, Miltonia from Central America and colder parts of northwest South America were reassigned to other genera, notably Miltoniopsis and Oncidium. These revisions are currently being recognized by the horticultural trade.

Miltonia species feature big, long-lasting blooms, which are commonly seen in multi-floral inflorescences. This, along with the fact that they are easy to cultivate and identify, makes them a favourite among orchid collectors all over the globe. This genus’s species are often utilized to create artificial hybrids.

These orchids have two leaves that grow from a pseudobulb and are protected by a foliaceous sheath. The inflorescence is made up of waxy, unspurred blooms. The lip is big and flat, with no callus at the base. They have two firm pollinia on a footless column. The blossoms have a delicate, exotic aroma that some liken to roses.

They may last up to a month and have the same bloom duration as a cut flower. Miltonia is readily grown at home or in a greenhouse. They usually blossom in the spring or fall.

Temperature: The optimal daytime temperature is 75-80 degrees Fahrenheit, while the optimal nighttime temperature is 60-65 degrees Fahrenheit. Temperature extremes are tolerated on occasion as long as they are not protracted. You should have a healthy plant as long as you keep the temperature suitable.

Light: Miltonia need bright diffused light to blossom; this can include a little sun (not direct sunlight) for up to two hours every day.

Water: Unlike some orchids that require a time of drying out, Miltonia grows all year and must be kept uniformly wet. Drench the plant in the morning and let it dry before bedtime. Watering once a week in the winter and twice a week in the summer is usually sufficient.

Repot: Miltonia is considered epiphytes. Therefore a standard bark or orchid mix should work well for repotting. Repot your Miltonia at least once every two years, or if the potting material begins to deteriorate. More information may be found in our ESSENTIALS section.

Feeding: Fertilise with Our fertilizer twice a week.  Fertilizer For Growing & Flowering.
