Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong graced the orchid naming ceremony on 18th January 2015 for the homegrown Papilionanda Chua Chu Kang, an event initiated by Mr Gan Kim Yong, MP for Chua Chu Kang Group Representation Constituency (CCKGRC), in celebration of 50 years of Singapore’s Independence (SG50). Today, CCKGRC exhibit the homegrown orchid on displays when hosting Citizenship Ceremonies, National Day Celebrations, and VIP Visits.

Care

Papilionanda Orchids grow well under 70-100% sunlight with broader leaf types usually requiring lesser sunlight. Water at the roots only after potting media has dried out completely. Do not allow roots to soak in water. Fertilise with Our fertilizer twice a week.  Fertilizer For Growing & Flowering.  Repot with coarse potting medium. E.g. charcoal.

The Chua Chu Kang orchid is a live Vanda orchid plant with vivid tropical colour, upright growth, and an elegant orchid form. The plant is supplied as a live orchid in a growing pot. Bloom count, spike height, root growth, and flower opening may vary naturally because each orchid plant grows at its own pace. This keeps each orchid slightly different while preserving the same fresh nursery-grown quality. If the plant arrives without open flowers, continue the same care routine until the next growth cycle and flower spike develops.

Orchid Care

Grow your vandaceous orchid in very bright filtered light or gentle morning sun with strong airflow. Water the roots thoroughly, then let them dry between watering. Protect the plant from harsh midday heat while keeping the roots open and well-aired.

• Fertilizer: Feed lightly during active growth with EzGro NPK Foliar Blue Fertilizer 63. For flowering support, use EzGro NPK Foliar Pink Fertilizer 67.
• Growing Media: Repot when needed with airy orchid growing media, such as coarse charcoal or other fast-draining orchid potting medium.
