Citrus × limon ‘Variegata’

Light (Most Important)

The Citrus × limon ‘Variegata’ requires full sun (6–8 hours daily). Strong sunlight enhances leaf variegation, promotes flowering, and improves fruiting. Too little light will cause leaves to turn greener, resulting in weak growth and little to no fruit.

Watering

Keep the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil is dry. In Singapore’s climate, this usually means daily watering during hot periods and reduced watering during rainy weather. Avoid waterlogging (which causes root rot) and letting the soil dry out completely (which leads to leaf and fruit drop).

Soil

Use a fast-draining soil mix to ensure good root health. An ideal mix is 50% potting soil, 25% perlite or sand, and 25% compost or bark. Citrus roots require good airflow, so avoid heavy or compact soil.

Fertilizer

Apply a citrus-specific fertilizer with micronutrients regularly. Use liquid fertilizer every two weeks or slow-release fertilizer every 1–2 months. Nitrogen supports leaf growth, potassium helps flowering and fruiting, while magnesium and iron prevent yellowing. Occasional Epsom salt can improve leaf color.

Flowering & Fruiting

The plant produces fragrant white flowers and can fruit multiple times a year in tropical conditions. For best results, ensure full sun exposure, consistent feeding, and stable watering.
