Colocasia illustris / Dark Clouds

The garden’s black beauty. There isn’t much to complain about with Colocasia Black Leaf Illustris’ massive, velvety violet leaves that are practically black in color. Foliage features vivid emerald-green ribs and midribs that only enhance its beauty. For the finest color and performance, grow these show-stoppers in damp, bog-like soil in full sunlight. Keep the moisture levels below the stems of Black Leaf Illustris in areas near water features. The roots of the plant prefer moist soil, but too much moisture can be harmful to the plant’s health. Enjoy!

Care

Elephant ears are a great way to add drama and texture to a garden or container. It’s easy to grow them since they like wet, fertile soil and filtered light or shade. Their rapid growth is due to the fact that they are propagated by tuberous rhizomes.

Completely tolerant of Zones 10-11. Elephant ears can only flourish in locations with daily temperatures of 70 to 85F and nighttime temperatures of no lower than 60F, which are comparable to their native Southeast Asian humid climes. Despite the fact that they may be cultivated in colder climates, they will need to be replanted annually. Tuberous rhizomes can be dug out and kept during the winter in colder regions.
