Light: Provide bright, indirect light. A south or west-facing window is ideal. Some direct sunlight is beneficial, but protect the plant from intense midday sun to prevent leaf scorch.
Temperature: Maintain warm temperatures, with daytime ranges between 70–80°F (21–27°C) and nighttime temperatures not dropping below 60°F (15°C).
Watering: Water frequently during active growth periods, allowing the potting medium to dry out between waterings. In cooler months, reduce watering frequency. For mounted plants, water daily or every other day, especially during warmer months.
Humidity: Aim for moderate to high humidity levels, ideally between 50–80%. Ensure good air circulation to prevent fungal issues.
Fertilizing: Apply a half-strength, urea-free fertilizer every other watering during periods of active growth when new roots and leaves emerge. In winter, reduce fertilizing to quarter strength or less.
Potting Medium: Use a coarse orchid bark mix or mount the plant on cork with long-fiber sphagnum moss. Repot when the plant becomes pot-bound, preferably in spring.
Additional Tips:
-
Ensure the plant is held tightly within the pot to promote root health.
-
Regularly remove any dry, papery sheaths from the pseudobulbs to monitor for pests like scale.
