Bougainvillea Care

Bougainvillea is a vibrant, fast-growing tropical plant known for its brilliantly colored bracts and drought tolerance. It thrives in warm, sunny environments and is perfect for landscapes, trellises, and container gardens.

Light

• Requires full sun (6+ hours daily) for maximum flowering.
• Insufficient sunlight will result in more leaves and fewer flowers.
• If growing indoors, place it near a bright window or use grow lights.

Temperature & Humidity

• Prefers warm temperatures (18-38°C / 65-100°F).
• Can tolerate high humidity, but also does well in drier climates.

Watering

• Water deeply but infrequently. Allow the soil to dry out between waterings.
• Established plants are drought-tolerant and prefer less water rather than too much.
• Overwatering can cause root rot and reduce flowering.

Flowering & Dormancy

• Bougainvillea blooms best when slightly stressed (less water and nutrients).
• A brief dry period can trigger flowering.
• It may enter dormancy in cooler months, shedding some leaves.
• If it stops blooming, reduce watering, increase sun exposure, and avoid over-fertilizing.

Pests & Problems

• Yellowing leaves → Overwatering or poor drainage.
